To Start With…

In 1969, while completeing his active duty as a Staff Sergeant, this author read a confidential "After Action Report" in the Army post library at Ft. Lewis, Washington. In a report regarding a middle of the night combat on a hill top in Viet Nam a discription was made by the officer in charge that as the battle was ending he took a step forward and fell onto his face. He didn't notice both of his legs were missing from the knees down while he had been running around during the fighting. More interesting to the reader of this report was what else was included. Some of his men had bullet holes in one side of their shirt and out of the other side of their shirt without any holes or wounds in their body. There were no redactions in the report nor any obvious editing which would have included mispellings.
